Michael David Inkblot Petite Sirah 2021
92 pts – Wine Enthusiast
This wine is concentrated, with aromas of boysenberry, olallieberry, cardamom, black tea, toasty vanilla and violets on the nose. The flavors on the palate are pomegranate-cranberry, dark cherry and orange zest, interwoven with vanilla cream, dried allspice, chocolate and a dry finish. — Tonya Pitts
The Michael David Winery Inkblot Petite Sirah is a powerhouse of flavor and depth, showcasing the extraordinary potential of Petite Sirah, especially when nurtured in the hands of Lodi’s premier winemaking family. This wine captivates with its inky purple hue, signaling the intensity and richness that lie within. Aromatically, it unfolds with a complex array of dark fruits, notably blueberries and blackberries, enriched by luxurious notes of dark chocolate, coffee, and a hint of toasty oak, alluding to its meticulous aging process. The palate is met with a robust and full-bodied experience, where the opulent dark fruit flavors are beautifully balanced by velvety tannins and a slight peppery spice, leading to a long, compelling finish that is both bold and elegantly structured.
Known for giving a platform to grapes that are usually used as “blending varietals,” the newest addition to our Inkblot family is none other than Petite Sirah. A favorite among our winemakers, Petite Sirah can be found in many of our wines for its concentration and color, but as a standalone varietal this grape is seriously impressive! Give it a try and we think you’ll agree that Petite Sirah was a natural fit for this brand that celebrates bold, inky and teeth-staining wines.
